GPS tracking · Maps & geofences

See where your assets were last seen — on a map.

Every scan, move, check-out and stock-take from the Asetavo mobile app can carry a GPS fix. Each asset gets a last known position and a geo trail on the map. Sites get a geofence, and on Business, vehicles and plant can carry hardware GPS trackers that report a live position. Staff are never tracked in the background.

What it solves

What changes when gps tracking moves into Asetavo

The way it usually works today, and the way it works once it lives in one system.

  1. Before: “Location: Denver depot” — but the generator was last scanned on a jobsite forty miles away, and nobody updated the register.

With Asetavo: The scan itself records where it happened. The asset’s map pin moves to the jobsite with the time, the person and the action.

  2. Before: Equipment drifts between jobsites and yards. When it’s needed, the search starts with phone calls.

With Asetavo: The geo trail shows every place the asset was scanned, newest first, so you start the search where it was last seen.

  3. Before: A tool belonging to the Dallas yard turns up on another site, and nobody notices for weeks.

With Asetavo: On Business, an asset scanned outside its site’s geofence raises an alert in the inbox the same moment.

  4. Before: Trailers and generators move between sites overnight with no record of where they went.

With Asetavo: A hardware GPS tracker reports live position, the route and its stops, and raises exit and offline alerts.

What your team actually sees

Coded from the real Asetavo screens, with sample data for a fictional company, Northfield Group.

The asset’s map tab: its last GPS position and a trail of every captured fix, each tied to the action, the person and the time.

Asset geo trail

  1. 1
    Trail on the map
Numbered points in order, newest first, joined so you can see how the asset moved between sites.
  2. 2
    Fix list
Each fix shows the action (scan, move, check-out, return, stock-take), who did it and when.
  3. 3
    Last position
The newest fix is the asset’s last GPS position, shown on the asset map and on the phone.

Capabilities

Everything in GPS Tracking

Every card below is in the product today, on the plans shown above.

GPS on mobile actions

Scan, move, check-out, return and stock-take actions from the app can each record one GPS fix.

Last GPS position

Every asset with a fix shows where it was last scanned on a map, with the time, the person and the action.

Geo trail

The history of an asset’s captured fixes, on a map and as a list, in the web app and on the phone.

Site locations and geofences

Give each site a map location and a geofence radius so “on site” has a real boundary.

Outside-site alerts

On Business, an asset scanned outside its site’s geofence raises an alert in the alerts inbox.

Hardware GPS trackers

On Business, trackers fitted to vehicles and plant report live position, trail and stops, with exit and offline alerts.

Capture mode per workspace

Off, optional or required. Admins decide whether actions must carry a fix.

No background tracking

The app records location only at the moment of an action, in the foreground. People are not tracked between scans.

How it works

From first step to everyday use

  1. 01
    Turn on GPS capture

An admin sets the workspace capture mode: off, optional or required — whether app actions carry a location fix, and whether they must.

  2. 02
    Put sites on the map

Give each site a map location and a geofence radius — a depot, a yard, a campus, a jobsite.

  3. 03
    Scan as usual

When someone scans, moves, checks out, returns or counts an asset, the app records one GPS fix with that action. Nothing runs in the background.

  4. 04
    Assets land on the map

Each asset shows its last GPS position, and its geo trail lists every captured fix — in the web app and on the phone.

  5. 05
    Catch it outside its site

On Business, a scan outside the asset’s site geofence raises an alert in the alerts inbox.

  6. 06
    Add trackers where it pays

Fit hardware GPS trackers to vehicles, trailers and plant (Business) for live position, trail, stops and exit or offline alerts.

Workflows, end to end

Construction: find the generator

  1. A foreman scans generator NF-00318 when it arrives on the Riverside jobsite.
  2. The fix moves its map pin from the Denver depot to Riverside.
  3. Next week, the yard manager searches for it and opens its geo trail.
  4. Last fix: Riverside, Tuesday 07:42, scanned by Daniel Okafor. The search starts there.

Logistics: keep kit at its depot

  1. The Dallas Distribution Center gets a map location and a 400 m geofence.
  2. Pallet jacks belong to Dallas.
  3. One is scanned at a customer site during a delivery check.
  4. An outside-site alert lands in the alerts inbox for the depot lead (Business).

Plant: track a trailer overnight

  1. A GPS tracker is fitted to flatbed trailer NF-00507 (Business).
  2. It leaves the yard at 19:10, and the exit alert fires.
  3. The trail shows two stops on the way to the Denver depot.
  4. If the tracker stops reporting, an offline alert follows.

Tagged assets show where they were last scanned, not where they are right now. Only assets fitted with a GPS tracker report a live position. Asetavo is not an indoor positioning (RTLS) system.

Deep dive

The detail behind it

What gets captured, and when

GPS in Asetavo is attached to work people are already doing. These are the rules.

Which actions
Scan to look up, move, check-out, check-in (return) and stock-take scans made in the mobile app.
What is stored
The coordinates of the fix, the time, the user and the action, linked to the asset’s history.
When
Only at the moment of the action, while the app is open. No background location, no tracking of people between scans.
Capture mode
Off (no location), optional (captured when the phone allows it) or required (the action needs a fix). Set per workspace.
Offline stock-takes
Stock-take scans can be queued offline in the app and submitted later. Other actions need a connection.
Indoors
Phone GPS is weak inside buildings. Rooms, stores and doorways are better handled by QR, NFC and RFID zones.

Last-scan GPS vs hardware trackers

The two are deliberately different, and the map shows which is which.

Tagged asset
Shows where it was last scanned. Between scans, the position doesn’t change, so the time of the fix is always shown.
Tracker-fitted asset
The tracker reports on its own, so the asset has a live position, a route and stops (Business).
Site geofence
A map location plus radius per site. A scan outside it raises an outside-site alert (Business).
Tracker alerts
Exit when a tracker leaves its geofence; offline when it stops reporting (Business).
RFID zones
Separate from GPS: readers at doors and gates raise left-zone and checkout-exit alerts indoors.
