Check-in closes the loop that a check-out opens. When the borrower returns the asset, the return is recorded: custody goes back to the store or pool, the location updates, and the condition can be noted so damage is caught before the next person takes it.
Why it matters
Without a recorded return, a register shows items as "out" long after they are back on the shelf — or, worse, shows them as available when they never came back. Check-in is also the natural moment to flag an asset for maintenance.
Good practice
- Scan the tag on return rather than ticking a box, so the right item is checked in.
- Capture condition and any fault on the spot.
- Review overdue items regularly — or let the system alert you.
In Asetavo
Check-in is a scan in the mobile app; the asset's custody and location update and the return is logged in its history.
