An RFID portal is a fixed reader installed at a doorway or gate for automatic asset detection.

A portal reads the tags of any assets passing through a choke point without anyone scanning them. Portals are how Asetavo detects entries and exits for [zone-exit alerts](/glossary/zone-exit-alert).
Position, antenna angle and read sensitivity all affect reliability, so portals should be tested with real tagged assets before going live.
