A movement alert is a rule-driven notification about an asset's location or custody. The best-known type is the zone-exit alert, but the idea is broader: an overdue check-out, an asset detected somewhere it has no reason to be, or an asset moving while it is supposed to be under repair.
Why it matters
Movement history tells you what happened. Movement alerts tell you while it is happening, when someone can still do something about it. Good alerts are specific, carry evidence (which reader, when, which asset) and go to someone who can act.
Avoiding alert fatigue
- Alert on exceptions, not every read.
- Define allowed zones (and record check-outs) so legitimate movement stays quiet.
- Route by zone or category to the team responsible.
- Require acknowledgement so alerts are closed out, not ignored.
